Israel Launches COVID-19 Antibody Tests for Children as Young as 3 Years Old

Israel has launched antibody testing for children aged as young as three on Sunday to determine the number of unvaccinated youths who have developed protection against COVID-19.

The education ministry aimed to discover how many children developed strong antibody protection against coronavirus after having an unrecorded or latent case.

The government dubbed the program as the “largest serological operation” and health officials are urging parents to bring their young children to the free test as soon as possible.

This test will be a free 15-minute test that will be conducted by a simple pin-prick process.

Health and education ministries, as well as the army’s Home Front command, are jointly conducting the survey.

The Israeli government has decided to call students back to school despite an increase in COVID-19 cases in the country due to the Delta variant.

Children found to have sufficient antibodies will not be asked to quarantine if they are exposed to a COVID-19 patient to make sure that the school year and classroom routine is not disrupted for children.

The Israeli government decided to reopen the schools as experts believe that online teaching has negatively affected the students and has caused “emotional and social damage.”
