The German Military reported that a firefight broke out between NATO troops guarding the Kabul airport for the evacuations and unidentified militants.
“This morning at 4:13 a.m. CEST, a gun battle broke out between Afghan security forces and unknown attackers at the north gate of Kabul airport. An Afghan security force was killed and three others wounded,” announced the German Joint Forces Operations Command.
Germany however clarified that none of their personnel or any NATO allies were hurt during the encounter.
There is no information yet on whether the attackers were Taliban or members of other armed groups in Afghanistan.
The German government has already warned its citizens in Afghanistan yesterday to avoid traveling to the Kabul airport because the Taliban was conducting strict checkpoints outside.
