Thai PM Announces Easing of Pandemic Curbs

Thailand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday announced the possibility of easing COVID-19 restrictions next month if lockdown measures prove effective in slowing infections.

“We can ease curbs on some activities and businesses,” Prayut said on his Facebook page.

Prayut referred to the Health Ministry’s claim that increasing lockdown efficacy would reduce the number of new cases and deaths.

The Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) extended lockdown measures in Bangkok and 28 other provinces until the end of August.

Prayut urged all Thais to follow the universal health guidelines and work together in helping to reduce COVID-19 infections and deaths.

“We don’t want anyone to die,” Prayut said.
