Islamist militants killed 47 people in an attack on a military convoy escorting civilians on their way to Arbinda, northern Burkina Faso, on Wednesday.
According to the communications ministry, the attack happened around 25 kilometers from Gorgadji, northern Burkina, where 30 civilians, 14 soldiers, and three militia volunteers died.
The attack also left 19 people wounded and 58 militants dead, the government added.
President Roch Kabore ordered three days of national mourning following the attack.
This was the third attack against the Burkinabe soldiers in the past two weeks in the north and northwest of Burkina Faso, killing more than a dozen soldiers and civilians.
