Taliban Opens Fire on Protesters in Jalalabad, 2 Dead and 10 Injured

Taliban gunmen have opened fire on civilians waving the national flag in Jalalabad, leaving 2 dead, at least 10 injured.

A video circulating social media showed Aghan citizens at Pashtunistan Square running away carrying Aghan flags while sporadic gunfire rang out across the busy traffic intersection.

Al Jazeera reported that some of Jalalabad’s residents were against the replacement of Afghanistan’s national flag in the city by the Taliban banner and have attempted to remove it.

“We know that they have put the flag back up again in an important square in Jalalabad and that there have been clashes with the Taliban,” said Al Jazeera’s Rob McBride.

There has been no official statement yet from the Taliban on the shooting.
