Kabul Airport Chaos Leaves 5 Dead as Afghans Attempt to Flee on Departing NATO Planes

Witnesses claimed that five people have died as desperate Afghans flocked to the Kabul airport to escape the Taliban after it took over the country.

Currently, the US and other NATO nations are carrying out mass evacuations out of Afghanistan in the wake of the Taliban takeover.

A witness at the airport claimed that he saw five bodies being carried out.

There was also footage shared on social media showing bodies in front of the airport entrance while people are frantically trying to get in.

It is not yet known if the purported fatalities were killed by stampeding or gunfire.

An unnamed US official later confirmed that security personnel fired warning shots into the air to disperse the crowds.

Some Afghans managed to make it to the runway and were seen climbing on board C-17 cargo jets or even clinging to the side of the fuselage out of desperation.

Some people reportedly fell from the air after the planes took off while those remaining were dispersed using helicopters.
