The Taliban have entered Kabul and are negotiating with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani over a “peaceful” transition of power.
After the Taliban arrived at the gates of Kabul, Taliban Leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar went to the presidential palace of Afghanistan to negotiate with Ghani.
“Negotiations are underway to ensure that the transition process is completed safely and securely,” announced the Taliban.
The negotiations will be observed by US and NATO delegates to ensure that it would remain peaceful.
According to an Al Arabiya report, their sources claimed that Ghani will abdicate in the next few hours and will hand over power to Baradar for the transitional government.
Ghani has not yet released an official statement and said that “everything was under control” earlier.
While there are no official announcements yet, the US has reportedly started evacuating all staff via helicopter while EU staff members are moving to a safer location.
Russia announced that all embassy staff will remain in place after the Taliban promised their safety.
