Devon and Cornwall Police reported multiple fatalities and several other casualties at a “serious firearms incident” in Plymouth, England on Aug. 12.
Police said they responded to the shooting incident at around 6:10 p.m. local time in Biddick Drive, in the Keyham area of Plymouth.
The exact number of victims has yet to be revealed.
Police declared the incident “critical” after officers and ambulance staff attended to the incident.
South Western Ambulance Service said that it responded to the incident with multiple “significant” resources, including Hazardous Area Response Teams, multiple ambulances, air ambulances, multiple doctors, and senior paramedics.
Police cordoned off the area and believe that the situation has been contained.
Sky News reported that its reporter, Mark White, has been told that the shooter in the incident has been shot and is believed to be dead.
Johnny Mercer, member of parliament for Plymouth Moor View, described the incident as “serious and tragic” and urged the public to remain calm and to follow instructions from the police.
“The incident is not terror related, and neither is the suspect on the run in Plymouth. Remain calm. It is for the police to confirm further details,” Mercer added.
Luke Pollard, member of parliament for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport, described the incident as “a very grim day for our city and our community.”
