Russian Hypersonic Missile Scientist Arrested on Treason Charges

Russian Hypersonic missile and aircraft scientist Professor Alexander Kuranov has been arrested in Moscow after he was accused of passing state secrets to NATO countries.

Russia’s federal security service (FSB) has not yet brought formal charges Russia’s against Kuranov but he is due in Lefortovo court in Moscow.

“Alexander A. Kuranov, whom the investigation wants to be put under arrest, has the status of a suspect,” said Leftorvo court’s press-secretary Anastasiya Romanova.

The Leftorvo court is also expected to put Kuranov in pre-trial detention for two months.

Kuranov is the general director and chief designer of St. Petersburg’s State Hypersonic Systems Research Institute and has been in charge of the Soviet-era Ayaks hypersonic craft program.

Neither Kuranov nor his legal representative has given statements on his arrest.
