Taliban Assassinates Afghan Government Media Head

The Taliban has assassinated the Afghanistan Government Media and Information Centre head Dawa Khan Minapal in Kabul.

“Unfortunately, the savage terrorists have committed a cowardly act once again and martyred a patriotic Afghan,” reported interior ministry spokesman Mirwais Stanikzai.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also confirmed that they have killed Minapal and that he was “punished for his deeds.”

Al Jazeera’s James Bays said that Minapal was killed after he left home to go for Friday prayers.

Both the Afghan government and the Taliban have not yet disclosed further details on Minapal’s death.

Minapal ran the government’s press operations for the local and foreign media and served as Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s spokesman.
