Ukraine Vows to Protect Belarusian Political Refugees

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that additional security would be given to  Belarus exiles in the country after Belarusian House Vitaly Shishov went missing and was found hanged in a Kiev park.

“Every Belarusian who can become the target of criminals because of their public political position must obtain special and reliable protection”, said Zelensky.

Zelensky aid he has instructed the Interior Ministry and SBU security service to assess risks and eliminate threats. 

Shishov’s death is already under investigation but Ukrainian authorities have no leads yet. 

Dissident Belarusians have been fleeing to Ukraine since Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has been cracking down on his critics after last year’s controversial elections.
