Turkish Wildfires Reach Milas Powerplant, Evacuations Ordered

Kemerkoy Thermal Power Plant workers were forced to evacuate after wildfires reached the town of Milas in Mugla’s Turkevleri region.

All plant workers were forced to evacuate from the plant while the plant’s hydrogen tanks have been emptied to prevent explosions.

Milas Mayor Muhammet Tokat posted photos of the fire reaching the gates of the Kemerkoy plant.

Tokat said aerial fire fighting engines managed to put out the fires earlier but were rekindled due to wind conditions.

“We have been begging and warning you for days. A water bomber plane to be sent here urgently,” said Tokat.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned that the plant was in danger of being warned down and that 51 helicopters and 20 planes have already been deployed to fight wildfires in the country.
