The European Union Ambassador to Iraq Martina Huth reported that flights from Basra to Minsk will temporarily be halted for at least 10 days.
“From several sources, we have heard that flights are canceled over the next ten days. It seems to be very reliable information. It seems that this has gone from Iraqi Airways to all travel agencies in the country,” said Huth.
It is not known if the flight suspension is related to the ongoing Migrant crisis in Lithuania but Huth said that the Iraqi government will investigate the trafficking of Iraqi migrants to Lithuania via Belarus.
According to the Minsk airport website, a flight from Basra was already canceled.
Currently, the EU is negotiating the repatriation of Iraqi refugees who have crossed illegally into Lithuania.
