Taliban Attack Afghan Defense Minister’s Home, 4 Dead

Suspected Taliban forces attacked the home of Afghan Defense Minister Bismillah Khan Mohammadi in the Green Zone and left 4 people dead while 20 more were injured.

An undetermined number of gunmen reportedly opened fire randomly around the vicinity of Mohammadi’s home and detonated a car bomb.

Mohammadi was not home during the attack but said some of his guards were wounded.

Italian medical charity Emergency confirmed that 11 people who had been wounded during the attack had been brought to its facilities in Kabul and that they have the bodies of four people who died.

The Afghan interior ministry said the attack had been successfully repelled and all the attackers had been killed by security forces but have not identified them yet.

“A big number of people were rescued and the area is secured now,” said interior ministry spokesman Mirwais Stanikzai.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack while the US suspected that it was the Taliban.

The US State Department said that the attack all pointed to the Taliban which has been on the offense as Western forces prepare to pull out of the country.
