A collision between a bus and a fuel truck in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) killed 33 people last weekend, police said on Aug. 2.

Local Police Captain Antoine Pululu said that a “huge fire sparked by the collision” engulfed the victims last July 31 near the village of Kibuba along the national route between Kinshasa and Kikwit.

According to another police source, the remains that were recovered were buried “respectfully” in Kibuba on Aug. 2.

The last major oil tanker accident in DRC took place along another main road between Kinshasa and chief sea port Matadi last October 2018, in which 53 people died.
