Cargo Ship Attacked off Oman

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that they are currently investigating a ship attack off the coast of Oman.

According to the UKMTO, the attack occurred late Thursday night just northeast of the Omani island of Masirah but did not disclose the parties involved or if it was a piracy incident.

The UKMTO later said that the vessel was about 152 nautical miles (280 km) northeast of the Omani port of Duqm when it was attacked.

The Omani government has not yet commented on the incident while US Navy 5th fleet forces in the area have also reported nothing so far.

The Israel-owned company managing the vessel that was attacked,  Zodiac Maritime confirmed that it was a Mercer Street petroleum products tanker.

Zodiac added that two crew members, a British and a Romanian died during the attack.

There are no suspects or parties yet that were named in the attack while no government has given a statement yet.
