The Danish military announced that an Iranian destroyer and a large support vessel were spotted through the Baltic Sea.
The US Naval Institute released satellite photos of the intel ship Makran and the Iranian destroyer Sahand heading towards the English Channel from the Atlantic Ocean.
The Tanker Tracker website said that two Danish warships escorted Makran and Sahand as it passed under Denmark’s Great Belt Bridge.
“It is expected that they are on their way to the annual naval parade in St. Petersburg,” said the Danish military.
Navy Command spokesman Per Hansen said he could not recall the last time Iranian ships passed through their waters.
Iran’s state media reported that their navy commander, Adm. Hossein Khanzadi, will join the Russian naval parade at St. Petersburg after receiving an invitation from the Russian defense minister while the Sahand might take part in the ceremonies.
Tehran clarified that their deployment to the Atlantic was an effort to test the capabilities of their fleet and was not headed to Venezuela.
