Hong Kong Authorities Arrest Apple Daily’s Former Executive Editor-in-Chief

Hong Kong national security police on Wednesday arrested the former executive editor-in-chief of the country’s shuttered pro-democracy newspaper Apple Daily.

Police told local media that they arrested 51-year-old Lam Man-chung, the former editor-in-chief of Apple Daily, for allegedly “conspiring to collude with foreign countries or foreign forces to endanger national security.”

With the sweeping national security law that China imposed on Hong Kong in 2020, the charge against Lam is viewed as a national security crime by authorities.

Lam is the eighth individual from Apple Daily who has been arrested under the national security legislation.
