Plant Guru Recalls Wintergreen, Birch and Blends of Essential Oils Due to Inappropriate Packaging

Plant Guru of Plainfield, N.J., is recalling about 25,600 containers of essential oils due to inappropriate packaging.

The recall includes the following:

  • Wintergreen Essential Oil
  • Birch Essential Oil
  • Headache Relief Essential Oil Blend
  • Headache Relief Roll-On Essential Oil Blend
  • Deep Muscle Essential Oil Blend

The recalled product’s packaging is not child-resistant even though it contains methyl salicylate, an organic compound that is naturally produced by many species of plants, such as wintergreens.

This poses a risk of poisoning if the contents are swallowed by toddlers. Common signs and symptoms of methyl salicylate toxicity include fatigue, nausea, hallucinations, dizziness, difficulty breathing, convulsions, and vomiting.

The recalled product is packaged in amber glass bottles with black continuous thread closures. The product name, logo, and the volume size of the product’s packaging are all in a black, gold, and blue label.

The oils were manufactured in the United States and were online.

In response to this, Geo Essential notified purchasers about the recall. The company urges consumers to immediately store the product in a safe location that is out of reach of children.

The company urges customers to also contact them for a free child-resistant replacement camp.

There have been no reported incidents to date.
