Anti-lockdown protesters chased, taunted, and assaulted BBC journalist Nicholas Watt through Westminster.
The said protesters were holding a demonstration in Westminster against the Government’s extension of the lockdowns in England by four weeks.
Footage shared on social media showed protesters surrounding Watt and calling him a traitor near Downing Street.
Another protester was shown grabbing his shoulder and screaming at his face before he ran for the police line nearby.
“This behavior is completely unacceptable. All journalists should be able to carry out their work without intimidation or impediment,” said BBC on the incident.
Watt himself has not commented on the incident but politicians quickly expressed their condemnations.
“The video of @BBCNewsnight’s Nick Watt being abused by a mob is appalling and distressing. This behavior is never acceptable,” said Home Secretary Priti Patel.
Culture minister John Whittingdale said what happened to Watt was “totally unacceptable,” while Labour MP David Lammy commented that it was “horrific.”
