Indonesian Volcano Mount Merapi Erupts Four Times in One Day

The Indonesian Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Centre (BPPTKG) reported that Merapi erupted four times in just one day.

“In six hours, Merapi also experienced 43 avalanche earthquakes for 10 to 141 seconds and five gust earthquakes for 11 to 27 seconds,” said BPPTKG Head Hanik Humaida.

Humaida said that smoke could still be observed above the volcano as off Thursday.

Citizens were advised to avoid going within the 3-km radius of the Merapi and to avoid rivers such as Kuning, Boyong, Bedog, Krasak, Bebeng, and Putih.

Merapi has been active since January this year and has exhibited volcanic activity during the recent months.
