Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top US infectious disease expert, has urged China to release the medical records of nine (9) people whose symptoms might provide potential clues into whether the novel coronavirus is the result of a lab leak.
The virus’ origin is still being debated, with US intelligence agencies still examining the reports that researchers at a Chinese virology laboratory in Wuhan were seriously ill in November 2019, a month before the first COVID-19 cases were reported.
However, Chinese officials have rejected the lab leak hypothesis.
They claim that the virus could have circulated in other regions before it hit Wuhan.
They suggest that it might have entered China through imported wildlife trading or frozen food shipments.
Fauci continues to hypothesize that the virus was first transmitted to humans through animals.
He pointed out that the lab researchers may possibly have contracted the disease from a wilder population.
