An unidentified suspect stabbed and killed a police officer at her station in La Chapelle-Sur-Erdre, western France then shot two other officers pursuing him.
The assailant reportedly stole the policewoman’s gun before escaping, prompting police to launch a manhunt.
French police later tracked the suspect but he refused to surrender and shot two officers.
The suspect was stopped after the police officers fired back and later died from his injuries.
All the police officers that were wounded by the suspect are still alive including the policewoman.
There are no details yet on the identity of the suspect or the motive for the stabbing if it was a terror attack.
The incident came after another policewoman was stabbed to death by a radicalized Tunisian migrant near Paris last month.
