FSB Claims Russian Agencies Hacked

Russia’s FSB security service and Rostelecom-Solar, the cybersecurity arm of telecoms company Rostelecom claimed that foreign hackers have breached local and federal agencies.

According to the FSB and Rostelecom report, the intrusion was extensive and sophisticated but did not mention which foreign power was behind it.

“Assessing the attackers’ level of preparedness and qualification … we are inclined to refer to this group as cyber mercenaries, pursuing the interests of a foreign state,” said the report.

There are no specific agencies that were mentioned in the report or claims that data was stolen.

The report added that the hackers are familiar with Kaspersky security systems but the company claimed that there was no evidence that their products were compromised.

The report also claimed that hackers used cloud storage facilities of local technology firms, Yandex and Mail.ru when stealing data.

Mail.ru denied the allegations while Yandex has not commented on the report.
