German police have launched an investigation on a possible arson attack that broke out overnight at the construction site of Tesla’s first European factory at Gruenheide in the eastern state of Brandenburg which leftist group Vulkangruppe claimed.
At about 2:40 am, the regional control center reported that a fire had broken out at the site.
The site was not burnt but several power cables leading to the Tesla site and an area of around 3 square metres have been razed before the fires were extinguished.
At noon local time, a letter was posted on the Indymedia.org platform by leftist group Vulkangruppe saying they made the attack.
“On the night of May 25-26, 2021, we cut off the power supply to the construction site of the Tesla Giga plant in Grünheide, near Berlin, and set six high-voltage cables laid above the ground on fire,” wrote Vulkangruppe.
Police have no evidence yet that the fire was an arson attack and are still investigating the crime scene.
