Indian Police Raid Twitter Offices over Alleged Post Manipulation

The Delhi Police Special Cell raided the three offices of Twitter India regarding the classification of a tweet by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sambit Patra as “manipulated media.”

“Delhi Police is enquiring into a complaint in which clarification is sought from Twitter regarding the classification of a tweet by Sambit Patra as ‘manipulative’. It appears that Twitter has some information that is not known to us on the basis of which they have classified it as such,” said the Delhi police.

Delhi Police PRO Chinmoy Biswal said that the Special Cell went to the office to serve a notice to Twitter “as a part of a routine process” to determine who to send a notice to,

Patra’s tweet was reportedly about a toolkit allegedly made by members of Congress that targeted the ruling BJP party over handling the pandemic.

The Indian Congress defended that it did not make any such toolkit as claimed by the BJP and had urged Twitter to permanently suspend the accounts of BJP’s members including party chief JP Nadda and Union minister Smriti Irani, for allegedly spreading misinformation.
