Black Lives Matter Activist Sasha Johnson in Critical Condition After Suffering Gunshot to the Head

Prominent Black Lives Matter (BLM) activist Sasha Johnson is in critical condition after suffering a gunshot wound to the head on May 23, her political party said.

“It is with great sadness that we inform you that our own Sasha Johnson has sustained a gunshot wound to her head. She is currently hospitalized and in a critical condition,” Taking The Initiative Party (TTIP) announced on social media.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning and followed “numerous death threats,” TTIP stated.

According to media reports, Johnson was understood to be the victim of a shooting in Southwark, South London at 3 a.m.

The Metropolitan Police has reported a shooting in the area and found a 27-year-old woman who had been shot, but did not confirm her identity.

“It is believed that the shooting occurred in the vicinity of a house where a party was taking place and that a number of people may have been in the area,” the police said in a statement.

The police also said that the investigation is in its early stages and so far, there was nothing to suggest that the woman was the subject of a targeted attack or that she had received credible threats before the shooting.

No arrests have been made so far.

BLM UK said on Twitter that they were “saddened” by the incident.

“While Sasha wasn’t part of our organization, she impressively founded a new Black-led political party and was dedicated to resist anti-Black racism,” BLM UK said, referring to TTIP.

“Any attempt to intimidate or silence her, is an attack on all of us,” BLM UK added.
