The Russian diplomatic mission in Palestine announced that Russian President Putin has given the order to evacuate Russian nationals from the Gaza strip amid tensions with Israel.
“Since the beginning of the Israeli military operation, the Russian mission to the Palestinian National Authority has been in constant contact with compatriots and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) citizens living in the Gaza Strip and who have asked us to assist in their departure from the sector. This issue is being worked out,” said the mission.
A decree was also posted on the government’s legal portal regarding provisions for the evacuation and orders for Russia’s SVR spy agency, the Emergency Situations Ministry, and the Foreign Ministry to schedule the said evacuations.
The evacuation plans were announced a day after Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov warned of worsening conflict in the region.
According to Russia’s ambassador in Israel, Russian nationals have already appealed to its diplomatic mission in the Palestinian National Authority for an evacuation from the conflict zone earlier.
RIA Novosti news agency claimed that there are 400 Russian and CIS citizens that were listed among the Gaza evacuees.
