Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Western nations will lift sanctions on oil, banking, and shipping during negotiations in Vienna.
“All parties to the talks have agreed to lift all major sanctions on oil, petrochemicals, shipping, insurance, the central bank, and so on. We have taken the main step and discussed the details,” announced Rouhani on state television.
Rouhani said the main agreement has been made but both sides are still discussing “details and finer points” before there’s “a final agreement.”
The EU and Russia said they are almost done outlining how the US would return to the accord after the US left in 2018, and how Iran would downsize its nuclear program.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi added that there are still issues with the deal including the return of the US to the UN Security Council to fully lift the sanctions against them.
All the diplomats involved in the deal agreed to resume the talks in Vienna next week.
