Pro-Palestinian Supporters Occupy UK Drone Factory Roof

Activists from the Palestine Action group have occupied the roof of a drone factory in Leicester to protest against the factory’s technology allegedly being used in the conflict in Gaza, on Wednesday.

The group has occupied the roof of the UAV Tactical Systems, a subsidiary of the Israeli-owned Elbit Systems and French aerospace company Thales, as they chained its gates to disrupt production.

In a statement the Palestine Action said, “Today’s action shows that it is entirely within our power to stop the production of brutal machinery which is fuelling war crimes in Palestine.”

“It is the duty of anyone who has been rightly appalled by these atrocities to stand up and take action, to prevent the Israeli war machine receiving any more armaments produced in this country,” the group also said.

According to the group, the factory produces Hermes drones which are extensively used by the Israeli forces.

Meanwhile, Leicestershire Fire Brigade Union members who have been called to the scene to assist in the removal of the activists from the roof, has refused to cooperate with police saying they “stand in support of Palestinian solidarity and the right to protest.”

Elbit Systems declined to comment.
