AP Executive Editor Calls for Investigation on Gaza Office Strike

AP executive editor Sally Buzbee has called for an independent investigation into the recent Israeli airstrike which destroyed the Al-Jalaa building where the news outlet’s Gaza offices were located.

Buzbee claimed that the Israeli government has not provided evidence that there was a Hamas command center located in the Al-Jalaa building, as claimed by Israeli authorities.

“We are in a conflict situation. We do not take sides in that conflict. We heard Israelis say they have evidence; we don’t know what that evidence is. We think it’s appropriate at this point for there to be an independent look at what happened yesterday,” said Buzbee.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during an interview last Sunday that the tower was a “perfectly legitimate target,” but did not explain why or provide evidence to support his claim.

Israeli Defense Force Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus claimed that they are already gathering proof of Hamas’ presence in the tower and said that the group uses civilian infrastructure to confuse Israeli forces.

Conricus has also denied the military was targeting the press to prevent media from reporting on the conflict.
