Al-Jalaa tower — home to the offices of Al-Jazeera BBC, and other major global news outlets in the city center of Gaza — has been destroyed by Israeli airstrikes.
All Al-Jalaa occupants including residential spaces have been reportedly evacuated after the Israeli Military informed them that destruction was imminent.
Al Jazeera’s Safwat al-Kahlout said another resident of the building got a call from the Israeli army telling them that the building was going to be destroyed an hour before the strikes started.
Footage circulating Twitter has shown the building collapsing into smoke and rubble followed by several explosions.
Al Jazeera producer Linah Alsaafin said they were not given enough time to evacuate their belongings.
“We ran down the stairs from the 11th floor and now looking at the building from afar, praying Israeli army would eventually retract,” said Gaza AP correspondent Fares Akram,
There have been no reported deaths yet among Al-Jalaa’s occupants.
