At least 12 worshippers died and about 15 others were injured after an explosion ripped through a mosque in the Afghan capital Kabul during Friday prayers.
According to Kabul police spokesman Ferdous Faramarz, the imam of the mosque was among the people who died during the explosion.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing that took place just as Friday prayers had begun, but initial police findings suggest that the imam of the Islamic house of worship may have been the target of the attack.
The bombing took place during the second day of the enforcement of the three-day truce between the Afghan government and the Taliban militant group. The agreement was to give way to the observation of the Islamic festival Eid-al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.
