Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared the city under state of emergency amidst reports of Israeli Arabs setting fire to synagogues and Jews stoning cars belonging to Arab citizens, Reuters reported.
Lod Mayor Yair Revivo told Channel 12 News “We have lost control of the city and the streets,” as he described the city erupting into a “civil war.”
The clashes have escalated following the death of an Arab man who was allegedly killed by a Jewish resident on Monday.
Meanwhile, a judge has remanded the four Jewish suspects involved in the death of 25-year-old Musa Hanusa, the Times of Israel reported.
Local media reported that the main suspect may have shot the victim from a distance of 50 meters as Jewish eyewitnesses said the suspect fired in self-defense.
Israeli police said two residents in Lod were killed after a rocket hit a vehicle on Wednesday.
