Authorities announced on Wednesday that the Israeli military has fatally shot a Palestinian teenager as violence and unrest continued escalating in the disputed northern occupied West Bank.
In a statement, the Palestinian health ministry said that Rashid Muhammad Abu Arreh, 16, died on the spot after being shot in the neck and chest amid the Israeli army incursion into the town of Tubas in the occupied West Bank.
According to local witnesses, a group of Israeli soldiers clashed with the local residents of Tubas when Abu Arreh got caught in the middle of the violent attack.
Authorities said another young Palestinian also got run over by a military vehicle and sustained broken ribs and injuries as a result.
Medical emergency responders also said that soldiers also shot and killed 26-year-old Hussein al-Titi during demonstrations in the southern part of Hebron.
The protest turned violent after demonstrators clashed against the Israeli army in the al-Fawwar refugee camp.
The Israeli military defended its move, saying that the troopers only defended themselves after spotting “one of the rioters standing on a rooftop with the intention of hurling a block towards the troops.”
“The troops responded with fire,” the Israeli army said in a statement.
