China has “indefinitely” suspended all activity under a China-Australia Strategic Economic Dialogue, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said in a statement.
It said that based on the current attitude of the Australian Commonwealth Government toward China-Australia cooperation, the NDRC of the People’s Republic of China has decided to “indefinitely” suspend all activities under the framework of the China-Australia Strategic Economic Dialogue.
“Recently, some Australian Commonwealth Government officials launched a series of measures to disrupt the normal exchanges and cooperation between China and Australia out of Cold War mindset and ideological discrimination,” added in a statement.
The commission however did not say what specific measures prompted the action.
Chinese state media said that Australia disrupted economic cooperation actions such as banning Chinese tech giant Huawei from its 5G telecommunications network.
China has also accused Canberra “of a Cold War mindset and ideological discrimination.”
Tensions between Australia and China come as the G-7 group of nations has called on Beijing to respect fundamental rights and freedoms.
