Epoch Times reporter Sarah Liang was attacked by unidentified assailants with a baseball outside her apartment in Kowloon, Hong Kong, China.
The Epoch Times management said that at about 11 am Tuesday, one of the assailants ran out of a black vehicle and repeatedly beat Liang’s legs with a bat before escaping.
“I was beaten on the legs about 10 times. He only targeted my legs in the attack,” said Liang.
Liang immediately called the police before she was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
Hong Kong police are still looking for the suspects and have no leads yet on their identities and motives.
Liang said she believed that the attack was only a warning because her legs were beaten.
The Hong Kong Journalists Association and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) condemned the attack and called on the police to catch the culprits.
“Hong Kong police cannot allow the brazen and lawless attack on Epoch Times journalist Sarah Liang to go unresolved,” said CPJ’s Asia program coordinator, Steven Butler.
The attack came just weeks after unidentified men attacked the Epoch Times printing plant in Tsuen Wan.
