Authorities said three Palestinian gunmen were shot after opening fire at an Israeli border police base in the Salem area of the northern West Bank early Friday, killing two of the Palestinian attackers and critically wounding the third.
According to the border police, the armed Palestinians wreaked havoc on the base near the northern West Bank town of Jenin.
Authorities confirmed no Israeli injuries were reported during the encounter between the police and the gunmen.
In a statement, officers said the incident began when the armed Palestinians attacked the base, prompting the border police and an Israeli military soldier to respond by firing back at them.
“The terrorists fired at the gate of the base. Border police officers and an IDF soldier responded by firing and neutralizing the three terrorists,” the Israeli police said in a statement.
Border police said they found three knives and bullets at the location of the incident.
The injured Palestinian attacker was sent to Emek Medical Center in Afula, the statement added.
After the incident, authorities ordered to intensify the security within the area. Security forces were deployed to erect checkpoints and roadblocks throughout the northern region of the West Bank.
