Burmese MMA fighter Phoe Thaw has been seriously injured in a bomb blast at an anti-coup rally and arrested.
Thaw, who competes in the ONE Championship featherweight division was arrested at a hospital where he was being treated for leg wounds sustained while allegedly testing a homemade bomb at a Yangon gym last Wednesday.
According to junta security forces, bomb-making materials, arms, and ammunition were found at a gym where Thaw and three other suspects were allegedly plotting acts of violence.
An anonymous source who was associated with Thaw told Reuters that the bomb was left by a policeman disguised as a civilian.
Despite being arrested for the bomb blast, Thaw was charged under Section 505(a) of the Myanmar Penal Code which criminalizes publishing or circulating any “statement, rumor or report with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, any officer, soldier, sailor or airman, in the Army, Navy or Air Force to mutiny or otherwise disregard or fail in his duty as such.”
