France has confirmed that French journalist, Olivier Dubois, is missing in Mali, a French Foreign Ministry source said on Wednesday.
The French Foreign Ministry source told Reuters that the ministry was in contact with the family of the journalist, checking the authenticity of a video seen on social media.
Reporters Without Borders Secretary-General and Executive Director Christophe Deloire confirmed the kidnapping of Dubois.
He was confirmed to be kidnapped in Mali after his video was released, asking his family and the French authorities to use their power to release him.
“We ask the Malian and French authorities to do everything possible to obtain his release and send all our support to his family and loved ones,” Deloire posted on Twitter.
Dubois works for various French news outlets including Le Point Afrique and left-leaning weekly Libération. According to the latter, he has been based in the country for six years.
