Turkish Police Capture ISIS Military Leader in Istanbul

Turkish police have arrested the alleged military head of ISIS in Istanbul along with 16 other members.

The leader, an Afghan national identified by the codename Basim, was reported to be the right-hand man of deceased ISIL leader Abu Bakr al Baghdadi.

Basim was arrested by National Intelligence Organization (MIT) and Istanbul’s police force at an Istanbul suburb.

Basim has been missing since the fall of ISIS in Syria last 2017 and was found out to have been traveling around on a fake passport.

According to the Turkish Demiroren news agency, Basim was suspected to be part of the ISIS council and trained fighters in Syria and Iraq.

There were also 16 other suspects that were arrested in Istanbul who were allegedly sending money to ISIS by declaring it as monetary aid.

No further information has been released on the identity of the suspects and if they are connected to Basim’s presence in Turkey.
