Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, appeared and called for vaccine’s distribution for “everyone, everywhere” during the Global Citizen Vax Live charity concert to promote worldwide COVID vaccination efforts last Sunday at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
The Vax Live event was hosted by the singer Selena Gomez, along with dozens of celebrities and was sponsored by the humanitarian organization Global Citizen to raise funds for the international vaccination campaign.
Prince Harry was welcomed with applause upon taking the stage in front of fully vaccinated crowd during his first public appearance since Prince Philip’s funeral last April 17.
Harry thanked all front-liners and healthcare workers who “spent the last year battling courageously and selflessly to protect us all.”
“You served and sacrificed, put yourselves in harm’s way and acted with bravery, knowing the costs. We owe you an incredible depth of gratitude. Thank you,” said Harry.
Vax Live event chairs Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, who is currently pregnant were not present at the event.
US President Joe Biden and his wife First Lady Jill Biden also appeared in a pre-recorded video played during the event.
According to the organizers, Vax Live was able to raised $53.8 million (£38.8 million) which is sufficient to purchase around 10.3 million vaccine doses
