Tanker Collision Causes 400 Ton Oil Spill in the Yellow Sea

Chinese maritime authorities on Thursday said about 400 tons of oil spilled into the Yellow Sea when a tanker collided with a vessel off Qingdao port.

The Shandong Maritime Safety Administration on social media said, “The amount of oil spilled from the ship into the sea is about 400 tonnes and the emergency disposal work is being carried out in an orderly manner.”

The administration also said the incident did not affect ships entering and leaving the port.

On Tuesday morning, Panama-flagged bulk vessel Sea Justice hit Liberia-flagged tanker A Symphony amidst a dense fog, which resulted in the spill.

Goodwood Ship Management, manager of A Symphony said they will start removing its cargo on Friday.

Authorities have now deployed 12 decontamination vessels to perform clean-up operations, the administration added.
