Burmese Indigenous Rebels Capture Base, Attack Security Forces

Indigenous Karen rebels have managed to seize a military post in Myanmar near the eastern border with Thailand.

The KNLA, the armed wing of Karen National Union (KNU), -attacked a military border post by the Salween river in Thaw Le Hta near Thailand’s northwestern town of Mae Hong Song.

KNU Spokesman Padoh Saw Taw Nee said that the attack happened around 5 a.m. local time (2230 GMT).but did not disclose injured or death figures. 

Thai villagers on the other side of the river reported that they heard gunshots and saw Burmese soldiers fleeing. 

Myanmar’s military has not yet commented on the attack or declared any losses.

In the Chin State, 15 Burmese soldiers were killed by the newly formed Chinland Defense Force.

“As many as 15 Burmese soldiers have reportedly been killed in a firefight with the local civil militia in Mindat, southern Chin state,” said the Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO).

The soldiers that were killed were reportedly part of a reinforcement convoy while the Chinland Defense Force has not claimed any losses on their side.
