Harley-Davidson Recalls Sportster (XL) Motorcycles and Headlight Assemblies Due to Faulty Headlights

Harley-Davidson Motor Company recalled 31,346 model year 2019-2021 Sportster (XL) motorcycles, and 796 headlight assemblies due to potential safety risk.

These headlight assemblies may have been sold as replacement parts for the following motorcycles:

  • Model year 2005-2019 Sportster
  • Model year 2005-2017 Softail
  • Model year 2005-2017 Dyna
  • Model year 2005-2011 V-Rod

The glass bulb within the headlight assembly may fail, causing a loss of both high and low beams.

A loss of both headlight beams can reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash.

Harley-Davidson will notify owners, while dealers will install a headlamp bulb shield, free of charge.

There have been no reported incidents to date.
