Chinese Military Planes Intrude on Taiwan’s Air Defense Identification Zone

Taiwan reported that a pair of Chinese military planes entered Taiwan’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ), the 16th intrusion this month.

The Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense (MND) said that Shaanxi Y-8 reconnaissance plane and one Shaanxi Y-8 electronic warfare plane entered the ADIZ from the southwest.

Taiwan tracked the two planes, activated missile defense systems, and sent radio warnings. 

The intrusion came a day after five J-16 multi-role fighters, one Y-8 electronic warfare aircraft, one Y-8 tactical reconnaissance aircraft, and two Y-8 anti-submarine aircraft also entered the ADIZ.

According to MND data, there have been airspace intrusion detected almost the entire month of April 2021, except for the first two days and the 14th. The largest intrusion was on April 12, when as many as 25 Chinese military aircraft entered Taiwan’s airspace.
