Ukraine Security Service (SBU) on High Alert, Conducts Drills

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has put all units on high alert and conducted interdepartmental drills to counter separatist activities in the country.

According to the SBU press service, the drills with the National Police, the State Border Service, the National Guard, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Emergency Service, representatives of executive authorities, and local government will improve coordination between the agencies against possible terrorist and subversive threats.

SBU spokesman Artem Dektyarenko. Ukrainian SBU said the drills and the heightened alert are responses to reports of rising separatist sentiment in some regions of Ukraine and Russian activity along the borders.

Since last month, tensions have been escalating on the border between Ukraine and Russia while separatist activity in Donbas and Crimea has been increasing.

EU’s high representative Josep Borrell said earlier claimed that more than 100,000 Russian troops are amassing at Ukraine’s borders.
