GEO Essential Recalls Essential Oils and Oil Blend Due to Failure to Meet Child-Resistant Packaging Requirements

Geo Essential of Orem, Utah recalled about 220 bottles of GEO Wintergreen Organic Essential Oil and GEO Alleviate Organic Essential Oil Blend due to inappropriate packaging.

The recalled product’s packaging is not child resistant even though it contains methyl salicylate, an organic compound that is naturally produced by many species of plants, such as wintergreens.

This poses a risk of poisoning if the contents are swallowed by toddlers. Common signs and symptoms of methyl salicylate toxicity include fatigue, nausea, hallucinations, dizziness, difficulty breathing, convulsions, and vomiting.

The recalled product is packaged in amber glass bottles with black continuous thread closures. The product name, logo, and the volume size of the product’s packaging is all in a black, gold and blue label.

The oils were manufactured in the United States and were online.

In response to this, Geo Essential notified purchasers about the recall. The company urges consumers to immediately store the product in a safe location that is out of reach of children.

The company urges customers to also contact them for a free child-resistant replacement camp.

There have been no reported incidents to date.
