Active Shooter Guns Down Three at Long Island Grocery Store, at Large

An unidentified gunman has shot three people at a Stop & Shop grocery store in West Hempstead, Long Island, and is still at large.

The shooting started occurred around 11:15 a.m. at the Stop & Shop at 50 Cherry Valley Ave. in West Hempstead in Nassau County.

The suspect was said to have fled onboard on a bus and has not yet been apprehended. 

“We responded to a call for multiple shots fired,” said the Nassau County Police Department.

Stop & Shop employees said around five to six shots were heard on the upper floors of the grocery. 

A shooting victim was believed to have died while the other two are injured.

The West Hempstead School District said they have locked their buildings and urged the public not to come out.  

The Nassau County police also advised all nearby residents to remain indoors.

Police have not yet released details on the identities of the suspects and victims.
