Loyola University Maryland’s Santi Aldama announced Wednesday he is putting his name in the 2021 NBA Draft while staying enrolled at the college.
The sophomore forward is looking to gauge the assessment of his draft stock before fully committing to leaving college. The NCAA changed its rules in 2018, allowing players to return to school if they are not selected in the NBA draft.
Previously, players had to withdraw from the draft within 10 days of the NBA combine to keep their college eligibility.
Aldama was one of two players in NCAA Division I basketball to average 20 points and 10 rebounds. The 6-foot-11 forward is from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain and paced the Spanish national team to the FIBA U18 European Championship.
Aldama is projected to be a second-round pick, but will only leave college for best-case scenarios.
